Regarding the silent sam statue
I was watching the news last night when I saw people protesting the Silent Sam statue and I started wondering about a few things.
- The statue is a memorial for students who had fought and died in the civil war. The protesters were students. Could they replace the statue with a memorial for students who got TV time for protesting?
- Some of the protesters were wearing shirts with a tarheel logo. All of the students enrolled at a school who's nickname was from a civil war generals term for Carolinians who refused to flee the battlefield. Maybe the new name should be more representative of the current students, something like, I don't know, the A-holes?
- Could we start a protest to change the name of DH Hill Library? It was named after a descendant of a civil war officer and from from Virginia. Gawd forbid!
